課程概述

As an introductory course, this course aims to familiarize graduate students with fundamental skills concerning academic English writing. Each week there will be two hours of lecture and one hour of grammar discussion. Topics to be covered include common rhetorical patterns, paragraph/essay development, grammar functionality, and essential vocabulary in academic English. Students will have ample opportunities to practice writing and discuss their assignments with their peers and the instructor. 

課程目標
 By the end of the course, students will understand common rhetoric modes in academic English writing, apply knowledge of grammar function to their own works, and demonstrate familiarity with vocabulary frequently used in academic writing. 
課程要求
 1. Students are required to attend all classes. No more than three excused absences are allowed.
2. Students are expected to be in class on time. No make-up quizzes/exams will be allowed.
3. Active participation in class discussions is required.
4. Assignments are carefully scheduled as stages toward the fulfillment of the course’s objectives. Late submission of assignment will not be accepted.
